Enhancements

• Self-hosted document processing now included: This is a configurable feature in 24.1.8 and later that requires no additional license. For the setup steps please see the following link.
• New cloud document processing licensing model (Effective July 1, 2025): Cloud Document Processing is now a per-device licensing model, requiring specific device entitlements. This only impacts document processing, not Scan to Cloud destinations such as Google Drive or OneDrive. If you are an existing active M&S customer using cloud document processing, this will be honoured and you will be unaffected by this update.
• Scan action visibility: A new option has been introduced to control the visibility of Document Processing-based scan actions on devices. This setting applies to both self-hosted and cloud-hosted Document Processing configurations.
• Canada Hosting Region for Cloud Services (Effective July 1, 2025): We’ve added a new hosting region in Canada for PaperCut MF Cloud Services. This means Canadian organizations can now process their scan-to-cloud and document processing data within Canada, helping meet local data residency and privacy requirements (like PIPEDA) and improving performance.
• Admin interface updates:
  • All document processing-based settings are now grouped under the Document Processing heading for scan action setups.
  • A new status column has been added to the Scan Action list view, making it easy to identify scan actions that have Document Processing settings enabled.

• Fixed an issue when using the responsive user interface that caused custom banner colours to not display on the login screen. [PO-3027]

Print Provider

• Fixed an issue that caused the PaperCut Application Server to incorrectly detect monochrome printers as color printers, which could lead to incorrect print charging or policy enforcement. [PIE-842]
• Improved the Print Provider to reduce the Application Server load when there are a large number of held jobs in a Find-Me queue and the connection between the Print Provider and the App Server if disrupted and then restored. [PIE-872]

Fixes

• Fixed an issue for MF new subscription customers where the Sales contact information displayed under PaperCut Admin Interface > About > Registration now displays the correct authorised partner contact details. [PO-2618]

• Introduced a responsive design when accessing the user web interface pages on a mobile device. When upgrading to 24.1.3, the new design needs to be enabled via a config key. For new installs, the new design is enabled by default. [PO-2887]

New Features

• Windows Protected Print (WPP) mode support (BETA)

  • Computers with Windows Protected Print mode enabled can now print to Mobility Print print queues that are deployed via Print Deploy. See the Windows Protected Print percolator page for more information. [PD-2070]

• Print Deploy client management

  • Admins can now view details of all connected clients (workstations) in the Print Deploy admin interface. This displays the username, hostname, IP address, OS, user groups, and the zone the client is connected to.
  • Print queues can now be deployed directly to individual clients in addition to zones. [PD-1984]

• Integrated Scanning uplift

  • Scan Reporting - Added 3 new built-in reports in PaperCut MF that provide detailed information on the scanning behavior and activities of users. These new reports are in the Reports > Scanning tab. [PO-2147]
  • Scan Archiving - New functionality to complement the existing Print Archiving feature in PaperCut MF. Scan Archiving can be configured in Options > Scan Archiving section. [PO-2328]

• Added log entries for the database platform version and database driver version in Application Server log files. See Database version and database driver version for more details. [PO-2837]

Fixes

• Fixed an incorrect URL in the Card Association User Notification email. If the notification email still displays an incorrect URL, then go to “page”. Related to known issue. [PO-2410]

• Improved Global Entitlements Service (GES) sync performance. Changes included adjusting the synchronization frequency within MF to stagger customer check-ins throughout each hour, preventing simultaneous server requests. See known issue for more information. [PO-2745]

• Removed the outdated local copy of the PaperCut NG/MF manual, from the Application server which has been replaced with the online PaperCut NG/MF manual. [PO-1946]

Enhancements:

• Added a new table in the About > Registration page showing a list of active Application Servers using the same CRN. A ‘deactivate’ option allows admins to deactivate the Application Server remotely. This will release entitlements from the server and make them available for other active servers to claim. • Introduced a new config key to control how SFPs consume MFD entitlements. The default behavior allows for SFPs to automatically claim any available MFD entitlements. • If you are upgrading from version 24.x to 24.0.2, your Application Server does not need an internet connection to the Global Entitlements Service for the upgrade to complete successfully. If you are upgrading from version 23.x or earlier to version 24.0.2, your Application Server will need an internet connection to the Global Entitlements Service. • Devices marked with * require installing an updated version of the embedded software to access new features and fixes.

New Features:

PaperCut MF version 24 introduces support for subscription licensing, in addition to supporting current (perpetual) license files. The changes described below have been introduced in order to support PaperCut MF subscriptions.

• Internet access is required when upgrading to v24 and syncing entitlements. Upgrading to version 24 requires a connection to a new Global Entitlements Service in order for MF to sync its installed license entitlements. Existing licenses will be activated automatically on upgrade. See Important points to know about PaperCut MF licensing (Internet connection requirements) for more information. [PO-2194]
• New ‘Registration’ page. A new ‘Registration’ page within the PaperCut MF admin interface lets admins view license or subscriptions details, reseller contact information and activate subscriptions. See Managing entitlements for more information. [PO-1299]
• Activating subscriptions. For subscription customers, the activation of a subscription is performed by entering an activation key in the new ‘Registration’ page. See Activating/renewing a subscription for more information. [PO-1299]
• Multiple subscriptions. The ‘Registration’ page supports multiple subscriptions where the admin can view their active or not started subscription(s) as well as look back on past cancelled or expired subscriptions. [PO-1299]
• Deactivating an installation. The ‘Registration’ page contains a new button for administrators to deactivate the installation. Clicking this button clears out the entitlements that the install is claiming so the entitlements can be reused for another site, or another fresh install. This requires a connection to the Global Entitlements Service. See Managing entitlements for more information. [PO-1658]
• Subscription Expiry and Notifications. With the introduction of PaperCut MF subscriptions, PaperCut MF has been updated to reflect modern subscription-based expiry behaviours. This includes ceasing major functionality - blocking logins to various web interfaces and clients and restricted UI access for the built-in admin account. Logins to MFDs/devices are also blocked when there are no active subscriptions. All other PaperCut functionality continues to work. In-product banners, widgets and icons have been enhanced to notify the admin of subscription expiry in advance. See When subscriptions expire for more information. [PO-1300], [PO-1301]
• Brand-neutral devices. Subscription customers can now use their device entitlements across any brand, eliminating device exchange fees when swapping out device brands. Perpetual customers still require brand-specific device licenses to activate device entitlements, and device exchange fees are chargeable to swap out device brands. After activation, Perpetual customers will now see brand neutral devices in the Registration page. • Environments with multiple application servers. Due to the new mechanism for syncing entitlements, multiple application servers will sync to a single source of entitlements for the customer. This means that environments that are using the same license file on each server will now use a single set of licensed items. Prior to upgrading to v24, customers need to ensure that their license covers the total number of devices used across their application servers. See Important points to know about PaperCut MF licensing (Global set of entitlements) for more information. [PO-1302]
• Device state changes. In order to manage the set of entitlements for the installation, v24 introduces changes to device states that now allow for entitlements to be released when not needed anymore. This can be done by manually setting the device to “Disable Indefinitely (Not Licensed)”. The state of the device displays as ‘Not Licensed’ in the Devices List, in the Admin web interface. When a subscription expires, a device no longer claims an entitlement and returns to displaying the ‘Not Licensed’ state in the Devices List in the Admin web interface. • Updated EULA. The EULA has been updated for version 24. See End User License Agreement (EULA) for more information. [PO-2072]
